Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about visiting Dubai, getting around, money, and how DubaiHuts works.

Visiting Dubai

Is it a good time to visit Dubai?

The cooler months, roughly October to April, are the most comfortable for outdoor sightseeing, beaches and the desert. Summer is very hot but brings lower hotel rates and indoor attractions stay open.

Regional conflict in 2026 led several governments to issue travel advisories, and visitor numbers fell sharply. Dubai officials reported in mid-2026 that advisories were easing. Always check your own government’s current travel advice and your insurance terms before you book.

Do I need a visa?

It depends on your nationality. Many passport holders receive a visa on arrival, others must apply in advance. Check the official requirements with your airline or the UAE government portal (u.ae) before you travel.

Is there a tourist tax on hotel stays?

Dubai hotels and holiday homes normally charge a Tourism Dirham fee per room per night, set by hotel category and charged for up to 30 consecutive nights. It is usually paid at the property. Ask your hotel how it applies to your stay, as relief measures have been announced at times.

What should I wear?

Dubai is relaxed by regional standards. Swimwear is fine on beaches and at pools; cover up when you leave them. In malls, souks and government buildings, keep shoulders and knees covered. Mosques that welcome visitors provide guidance and sometimes clothing.

Getting around

What is a Nol card and do I need one?

Nol is the payment card for the Metro, tram, buses and public water transport. Visitors usually buy a Silver card; occasional riders can use a single-trip Red ticket. See our transport guide for fares and tips.

Some Metro station names do not match my map. Why?

Many stations have been renamed under naming-rights deals. For example, Dubai Marina station is now Sobha Realty and JLT is now DMCC. Our area guides use the current names.

Money and safety

Can I use cards everywhere?

Cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere. Carry a little cash for abra crossings, small shops and tips.

What number do I call in an emergency?

Call 999 for police, 998 for ambulance and 997 for fire.

About DubaiHuts

Can I book through DubaiHuts?

No. We do not take bookings or payments. Some buttons take you to booking partners such as hotel sites or tour marketplaces, where you book directly with them.

Do businesses pay to be listed?

Our editorial listings are free and chosen by us. A small number of placements may be paid; they are always marked “Sponsored”.

Why are there no prices or star ratings?

Prices change daily and we do not publish numbers we cannot verify. Where an editor has checked a price, it is shown with the date it was checked. We never publish user ratings or reviews we have not collected ourselves.

I found an error. How do I report it?

Use the “Suggest a correction” link on any page, or our contact form. We check every report.
