Downtown Dubai
Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and the fountain on your doorstep
The postcard Dubai: Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and the fountain shows, all within a walkable, well-connected district.
Downtown Dubai is the part of the city most first-time visitors picture. Burj Khalifa rises from its centre, The Dubai Mall wraps around its base, and the Dubai Fountain performs on the lake between them every evening. Around this core sit Souk Al Bahar, Dubai Opera and a ring of hotel and apartment towers linked by shaded promenades.
Why stay here
Few places in Dubai put so much within walking distance. You can reach the mall, the observation decks and dozens of restaurants on foot, and the Red Line Metro runs along Sheikh Zayed Road on the district’s edge. It suits short trips where you want to see the landmarks without spending hours in taxis.
What to know
Downtown is busy, especially on weekend evenings and during the fountain shows, and hotel rates reflect the location. There is no beach; the coast is a 15 to 25 minute drive away depending on traffic. Walking between the Metro station and the mall is via a long air-conditioned link bridge, which is comfortable even in summer.
Good for
First visits, short city breaks, shopping, and anyone who wants the skyline on their doorstep.

Living in Downtown Dubai
Downtown is popular with professionals who want a central, walkable address. Apartments are mostly in high-rise towers with gyms and pools; expect premium rents compared with suburban communities, and heavy traffic around the mall at weekends.
